چکیده

Anorexia Nervosa is a very serious eating disorder that usually young girls, between ages 12-20 experience. Girls which have such high expectations placed on them to be thin are the ones that are most likely to experience Anorexia Nervosa. However a few researches have studied the effect of exercise in young thin women with anorexia nervosa. The aim of this study was to investigate whether walking exercise can positively effect on BMR and anthropometric variables in young thin women. Twenty thin (BM I <20) women with age 22.00 ± 1.50 years volunteered to participate in this study. They were randomly assigned to exercise (n=10) and control (n=10) groups. Before and after the training program both groups had BMR and anthropometric measurements. Each walking session was 30 min walking at 50-75% of maximal heart rate, 3 days per week, for 2 months. Percent body fat, fat mass and lean mass changes in response to training were significant in the exercise group (all p=0.000). Also BMR in exercise group significantly increased (p= 0.022). This study demonstrated that walking exercise improved the Anorexia Nervosa in young thin women. If done on a regular basis, this type of training can be efficient, safe way of reducing this illness.

Development of New Predictive Equations to Estimate Basal Metabolic Rrates in Iranian Adults: A Study Protocol

Background and Objectives: Studies indicate over-estimation of basal metabolic rate (BMR) using common equations for the Asian people. The present study aims to develop new predictive equations for the Iranian people and to compare these equations with commonly used formulas. Materials and Methods: Total, 150healthy subjects aged 18-60 yrare invited to the Laboratory of Nutrition Research, Nat...

Relationship between basal metabolic rate, gender, age, and body composition in 8,780 white obese subjects.

The objective of the present study was to explore the relationship between basal metabolic rate (BMR), gender, age, anthropometric characteristics, and body composition in severely obese white subjects. In total, 1,412 obese white children and adolescents (BMI > 97 degrees percentile for gender and age) and 7,368 obese adults (BMI > 30 kg/m(2)) from 7 to 74 years were enrolled in this study. BM...

Age and sex effects on energy expenditure13

The aims of the present study were to examine possible effects of age and sex on energy expenditure independent of differences in body composition, and to develop prediction equations for individual estimation of energy expenditure. The study is based on 235 female and 78 male subjects ranging in age from 15 to 64 y and with body mass indexes (in kg/rn2) ranging from 16.9 to 50.5. Basal metabol...

Validity of predictive equations for basal metabolic rate in Japanese adults.

Many predictive equations for basal metabolic rate (BMR) based on anthropometric measurements, age, and sex have been developed, mainly for healthy Caucasians. However, it has been reported that many of these equations, used widely, overestimate BMR not only for Asians, but also for Caucasians. The present study examined the accuracy of several predictive equations for BMR in Japanese subjects....

Is the Rate of Metabolic Ageing and Survival Determined by Basal Metabolic Rate in the Zebra Finch?

The relationship between energy metabolism and ageing is of great interest because aerobic metabolism is the primary source of reactive oxygen species which is believed to be of major importance in the ageing process. We conducted a longitudinal study on captive zebra finches where we tested the effect of age on basal metabolic rate (BMR), as well as the effect of BMR on the rate of metabolic a...
